Based on the F/A-18 Hornet, the F/A-18E Super Hornet — which was introduced in 1999 — is a larger and more advanced derivative of its predecessor. Both the Hornet and the Super Hornet remain in service with the U.S. Navy, though, with the introduction of the F/A-18E, the F-14 Tomcat was phased out. In addition to active duty in the United States, the Royal Australian Air Force flies the Super Hornet, which they began purchasing as a replacement for the nearly obsolete F-111 Aardvark.
Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model is a stunning replica of an F/A-18E serving with the U.S. Navy's VFA-14 "Tophatters" as it appeared during their 90th year anniversary in 2009. It features that aircraft's signature red and black accents with commemorative tail artwork, engraved panel lines, an opening canopy, a well-equipped cockpit, a removable crew figure, an impressive selection of weaponry including drop tanks, optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a stylish presentation stand. Measures approximately 10" long with a 7½" wingspan.
