Based on the F/A-18 Hornet, the F/A-18F Super Hornet is a tandem-seat advanced derivative of its multi-purpose fighter predecessor. While the Hornet has been around since the late 1970s, the Super Hornet — which first flew in 1995 — entered full-scale production in 1997, entering service with the U.S. Navy in 1999 (when it replaced the F-14 Tomcat). In addition to flying with American forces, the F/A-18E/F can be found in the RAAF fleet as well, with a long list of potential bidding nations.
This 1/72 scale, die cast model — a Hobby Master replica of an F/A-18F as it appeared with the VFA-122 "Flying Eagles" in 2006 — features engraved panel lines, realistic engine exhausts, an opening canopy, a removable pilot figure, a well-equipped cockpit (including an instrument panel), full weapons complement (including an impressive selection of wing-mounted missiles and rockets), optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a display stand. Measures approximately 9¼" long with a 6¼" wingspan.
