A torpedo bomber used by both the Navy and the Marines, the TBF/TMB Avenger first flew in August of 1941. Its inaugural combat action came the following summer during the famous Battle of Midway, though its first major war prize came in November when it helped finish off the Hiei, a Japanese battleship. Nearly 10,000 Avengers were manufactured and they remained in service throughout the world into the 1960s.
Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model replicates a TBM-3 as it appeared with VC-88 while stationed on the USS Saginaw Bay in March of 1945. It features engraved panel lines, a detailed Wright radial engine, a rotating propeller, a sliding glazed canopy, a well-equipped cockpit (with a removable pilot figure), a realistic rear gunner station (with a Browning machine gun), full weapons complement, optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a mid-flight display stand.
