The most advanced aircraft in the history of aviation, the F-35 Lightning II is a stealth, multipurpose fighter that has been in development for years. While its first flight occurred in 2006, it was not officially introduced until 2015 when the STOVL "B" variant was delivered; in August of 2016 the conventional "A" variant also began its service (the carrier-based "C" variant is expected to be introduced in 2018). The program itself, a source of much controversy, has exceeded its cost by billions of dollars with a total expenditure surpassing 1.5 trillion, making it the most expensive military weapon in world history.
Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model is a replica of the first F-35I, Israel's modified variant of the Lightning II. Israeli pilots will flight test the new aircraft, featuring alterations specific to the Middle Eastern nation's needs, in December of 2016 at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida. It features engraved panel lines, an opening canopy, a well-equipped cockpit (with a removable pilot figure), realistic air intakes and an exhaust port, optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a display stand. Measures approximately 8½" long with a 5¾" wingspan.
