Operating as the primary carrier-based bomber for the IJN, the B5N "Kate" served Japan through the entirety of World War II, despite nearly obsolescence by 1941. A delay in the production of its successor, the B6N, kept the Kate in combat, ultimately proving successful at Pearl Harbor, Midway, Coral Sea, and elsewhere. The aircraft featured a three man crew including a pilot, navigator, and gunner.
Replicating a B5N2 Type 97 as it appeared during the Pearl Harbor strike, this 1/72 scale plastic kit features a glazed canopy, a detailed cockpit (with an instrument panel), a rotating propeller, an 800kg armor-piercing bomb, realistic landing gear, numerous photo-etched parts, and authentic markings for two Imperial aircraft (stationed on the Akagi or Hiryu). Assembly required. 50 pieces. Skill level 2. Measures approximately 5¾" long with an 8½" wingspan.
