Combining parts from a low-hours Swiss F-5E Tiger with their own F-5F, the VMFT-401 "Snipers" of the U.S. Marines created one of only three planes known thereafter as the "Frankentiger." The tail and cockpit came from their "F' variants while the fuselage and wings were taken from the "E."
This 1/72 scale, Hobby Master, die cast model replicates this VMFT-401 "Frankentiger" as it appeared celebrating the squadron's 25th anniversary in 2011. It features that aircraft's commemorative tail artwork and tiger stripes, engraved panel lines, realistic turbojet engines, a clear sliding canopy, a well-equipped cockpit including two removable pilot figures, full weapons complement (including two 20mm cannons and a selection of Sidewinder/Maverick missiles and rocket pods), optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a mid-flight display stand. Measures approximately 8¾" long with a 4½" wingspan.
