A catapult-launched floatplane, the OS2U Kingfisher was an observation aircraft introduced in 1938. It was the primary shipboard observation plane of the U.S. Navy, also serving on vessels with the Marine Corps, Royal Navy, and Soviet Navy. It also served search and rescue duties, though, due to its light engine, its influence was somewhat limited. More than 1,500 were manufactured and it was officially retired in 1959.
A premium quality replica of the OS2U, this 1/32 plastic kit features engraved panel lines, a rotating propeller, a detailed radial engine, a well-equipped cockpit and gunner station with a Browning machine gun, realistic central and stabilizing floats, rubber tires, a removable bomb, a ladder for boarding, and authentic decals. Assembly required. Skill level 4. Measures approximately 12¾" long with a 13¼" wingspan.
