Developed to replace the smaller SBD Dauntless, the SB2C Helldiver dive bomber had numerous operational problems from the start: two prototypes crashed before it was even introduced. Despite that and pilots' dislike for the bulky size, the SB2C was deployed late in the war and was used to help destroy the two largest battleships ever built: the Musashi and Yamato.
Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model replicates "White 203" as it appeared stationed on the USS Ticonderoga in May of 1945. It features engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit and rear gunner station (with sliding canopies and crew figures), realistic "Swiss cheese" dive-brake flaps, a rotating propeller, wing-mounted 20mm cannons and under-wing mounted missiles, optional-position landing gear (with an arresting hook), authentic VB-87 markings, and a display stand. Measures approximately 6¼" long with an 8¼" wingspan.
