During the winter of 1941 through 1942, the German advance was halted and the Soviets were able to push their forces back towards the west where there was a defensive front setup near the town of Karmanowo. The 2nd Panzer Division fought in several offenses such as battles at Klin, Karmanowo, Bjeloje, and others where they lost severely. Remaining in the area until the end of 1942, German power suffered a heavy price after a while.
