Arriving at Syria's Bassel Al-Assad International Airport in September 2015, six Su-34 Fullbacks began aerial attacks on September 30 in the Homs region against the Islamic State. They used concrete-piercing bombs to destroy the underground bunkers, which contained explosives. Their targets were located by using the GLONASS satellite system and on November 8 additional aircraft arrived in Syria. In addition to giving the Russian Air Force the ability to increase their skills, the Su-34 maintained a 70% availability rate.
