Truth is Stranger Than Fiction-The Avro CF-105 Takes Flight

Friday, April 2, 2010

Introducing the First-Ever 1/72 Scale Die Cast Avro CF-105 Arrow!

The story of the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow can't help but remind you of the adage, "truth is stranger than fiction."

A Hollywood scriptwriter would be hard-pressed to come up with a more interesting tale: The Arrow, a delta-winged interceptor that held the promise of Mach 2 speeds at altitudes exceeding 50,000 feet, seemed to be almost too good - too advanced - to be true when it was developed and unveiled in the 1950s. But when its flight test program was cancelled - and all prototypes destroyed - in 1958 shortly after it started, the story of the Arrow took a different flight...one filled with political ambition, international espionage, subversion and deceit that still reverberates in the aviation community more than 50 years later!

Our crew at Historic Aviation likes a good "war" story - Cold War story, in this case - just as much as you do, so that's why we were so intrigued when we saw the first-ever, 1/72 scale, die cast CF-105 Arrow model, which is proudly offered as the first aircraft in the new Canadian Heritage Series produced by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

And, we're pleased to say, this limited edition model passed our "flight test" with flying colors and is now available to display in your collection! Measuring nearly 14" long, this model beautifully replicates one of the five Arrows produced and tested before the program was cancelled (this aircraft exceeded the speed of sound on its September 22, 1958, maiden flight - complete with realistic air intakes and engine exhausts, optional-position air brakes and landing gear, and an authentic day-glo paint scheme with the Canadian Commonwealth "red ensign" flag (which was applied only to this Arrow). There's even a display stand included to show your Arrow in flight!

To help you better understand the significance (and controversial history) of this aircraft, we're also including a FREE DVD movie - The Arrow - with your purchase of the model! Based on actual events, the film stars Dan Akroyd (in one of his greatest non-comedic roles, right up there with Driving Miss Daisy) as the president of Avro Aircraft, which accepts the RCAF challenge to create a radically advanced jet fighter-interceptor in the 1950s. You'll also enjoy a host of fantastic extras, including a documentary about the Arrow's development, a "making of" featurette, and a recreation of the original Arrow pilot training manual.

Don't delay, this offer is expected to reach Mach 2 speed and fly off our shelves - order your Arrow model today!
