Agile as the Devil

Agile as the Devil

Dan Zoernig. In October 1917, the Fokker Dr.I appeared in significant numbers over the Western Front. The tri-plane, or "dreidecker," possessed a top speed of 115 mph and a superior rate of climb. Though its engine was considered a little underpowered, the Dr.I achieved a level of maneuverability that prompted Manfred von Richthofen to write of its qualities, "Climbs like an ape, and as agile as the devil." 19"x 13" print is signed by the artist.
