The U.S. Army was in need of a replacement for their aging AH-1 Cobra, and the Hughes' helicopter was chosen based on its stable landing gear and tough main rotor. In 1981, three AH-64s were manufactured for the Army to start testing, and given the name Apache. After it went into production, this helicopter has evolved into a deadly attack aircraft. 9¾" long.
