Released in 1979, the original blockbuster film Alien set the bar for an entire genre with its dramatic storytelling and groundbreaking visual effects. Sigourney Weaver also broke new cinematic ground as the hardened heroine, Ellen Ripley, breaking years of male-dominated action stars. The series also, of course, spawned a number of successful sequels, prequels, and crossovers — none more memorable than the Alien's run-ins with Predator.
