Part of the 56th Operations Group, the 21st Fighter Squadron was reactivated in August of 1996 chiefly to train members of the Republic of China Air Force on the F-16 Fighting Falcon, fourteen of which remain at Luke Air Force Base officially belonging to Taiwan. In 2016, an F-16A Block 20 was painted with commemorative artwork celebrating the squadron's twenty-year relationship with the ROCAF.
