The VMF-121 was produced in June 1941 and was equipped with the F/A-18D Hornet. In early 2017, VMFA-121 (Green Knights) transferred from MCAS Yuma, Arizona to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, becoming the first forward deployed permanent F-35B squadron. The F-35 took its first flight on December 15, 2006, and this single-seat fighter is one of the most advanced aircraft of its time.
