Redeployed to the Atlantic to help protect convoys from German U-boats, a few USN escort carriers finished the mission of eliminating Japanese carriers in the Pacific to take on an even heavier one. The Bogue, Card, Core and Croatan became Hunter-Killer carriers with Wildcats and Avengers onboard. Established on October 6, 1943, the VC-12 spent the winter of 1943 and 1944 on the USS Core at NAS Sand Point located in Seattle. During this time, they had 34 engagements until they were disestablished on June 7, 1945.
