A Luftwaffe aircraft first flown in 1941, the Messerschmitt Me 163 was the only rocket-powered fighter ever to become operational. It is also the first piloted plane of any design to reach 1,000 kph in level flight. Known as the Komet, it was manufactured in limited numbers (less than 400 were built) and it proved ineffective in the interceptor role, responsible for the destruction of less than 20 Allied aircraft, against ten losses.
This 1/72 scale plastic kit replicates the first production variant of the German warbird and features engraved panel lines, a glazed canopy, a well-appointed cockpit (with an instrument panel and photo-etched parts), a detailed undercarriage, and authentic markings for three different planes (including Rudolf Opitz's plane as it appeared in 1943). Assembly required. Skill level 2. Measures approximately 3¼" long with a 5" wingspan
